With a view to providing awareness on opportunities available to students of the Malwa belt regarding employment-oriented higher and professional education, Chandigarh University, Gharuan, opened its regional office here on Tuesday.
The office was inaugurated by mayor Baljeet Singh at Guru Nanak Complex, 100-Feet Road.
The office will cater to the needs of students and parents of Malwa region, comprising Bathinda, Mansa, Muktsar, Faridkot, Moga, Fazilka and Ferozepur districts.
While speaking to the media, Baljeet Singh said that with this the students of the region would be able to get right guidance before choosing their careers.
"Services will be offered free of cost to the students visiting the office. Career counselling will be done by experts and the result of the session will be shared with the parents," said the mayor.
Speaking on the occasion, vice-chancellor RS Bawa said, "There are more than 1,500 students currently studying with us in different courses from the Malwa region, but when compared to the other regions of Punjab, the number is quite low."
Bawa said, "The office has been started with a view to providing counselling to the students of the region so that they can opt for the best and diversified career options available."
Announcing special incentives, Bawa said, "Under our Super Achiever scholarship programme, any meritorious student from Punjab aspiring to join engineering and management streams and figuring in the merit list of AIEEE/MET examination with a state rank of up to 500 would be offered 100% scholarship in tuition fees and the student's would-be expenses of lodging during his academic stay at Chandigarh University would be borne by the management."
He said, "We are committed to all-round development of students, so any sportsperson willing to study at our university and who has figured in top three positions at the international or national-level sports competitions would be given 100% tuition fee scholarship."
