The BSF companies, with each comprising 70 armed personnel from Rajasthan; Abohar and Gurdaspur battalions, arrived here on Tuesday night.
The paramilitary personnel have been deployed at several points, including Mai Hiran Gate, Domoria Bridge, railway station, Jyoti Chowk, PAP Chowk, Kapurthala road, Milap Chowk, Doaba Chowk, Pathankot Bypass and other crucial points to keep a tight vigil.
During the checking at Domoria Bridge by BSF and city police, sharp-edged weapons were recovered from a car and two youths, identified as Kirpal Singh and Kulwant Singh, were detained.
The police said the two were released with a warning after verifying their details.
Roads in the city have also witnessed heavy rush of people ahead of the auspicious occasion of Dussehra on Thursday.
The force has been deployed ahead of Dussehra and other religious processions that will be undertaken on the occasion of Balmiki Jayanti in the coming days.
