Claiming they were facing the tough time, the contractors demanded that the MC should pay their pending dues (around Rs 55 crore) at the earliest.

It may be mentioned that due to its poor financial condition, the civic body has failed to pay around Rs 90 crores to contractors involved in different development projects.

Atam Kalra, a contractor, said, "Even after repeated visits to the MC office, there has not been any significant development regarding our pending dues. We could pay to other parties only after the MC releases funds."

He also added the MC had assured them to release some amount on Wednesday but to no avail. Meanwhile, MC commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agarwal was not available for comment.
