Cop crushed to death by speeding car
An assistant sub inspector (ASI) with Punjab police was crushed to death by a speeding car when he tried to stop it for checking in the district's Mahilpur town. 50-year-old Nirmal Singh, posted in Mahilpur police station, was on duty late last night at a special check-post set up to prevent anti-social elements to enter the town.

50-year-old Nirmal Singh, posted in Mahilpur police station, was on duty late last night at a special check-post set up to prevent anti-social elements to enter the town.
On seeing a speeding car, Singh signalled it to stop but instead of halting, the driver crushed him under it, police said.
Singh was immediately taken to Community Health Centre at Mahilpur where doctors declared him brought dead.
Singh, a resident of village Bachhoi, is survived by his mother, father, wife, son and daughter.
Police arrested car driver Dilbag Singh, alias Sonu, and a case has been registered under various sections of the IPC.
