Even as about a month has passed since, the Kapurthala police are yet arrest three co-accused in the case in which an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was shot at.
ASI Raman Kumar along with his team was attacked on September 27 by six occupants of a Toyota Innova after he signalled the car to stop for routine checking at a check post near the grain market. On this, one of the youths allegedly started firing at the police personnel. The ASI, however, escaped unhurt. The police managed to nab three of the youths — Harpreet Singh of Ferozepur, Yadwinder Singh and Satpal Singh of Hari-Ke-Pattan in Amritsar — on the spot while other three managed to flee.
The absconders are Amritpal Singh, Sabu and Jaspreet Singh.
During the interrogation, the police found that Jaspreet Singh, Satpal Singh, Amritpal Singh and Yadwinder Singh were already facing three to four cases of heinous crimes such as attempt to murder and criminal assault.
It was also found during the investigation that the revolver with which Amritpal fired at the police personnel was unlicensed and the gang used to encroach land by terrorising people. Amritpal was the kingpin of the gang.
It has also come to light that most of the cases have been registered at the Tarn Taran police station. The Tarn Taran police are also looking for the accused.
“We are trying our best to arrest the remaining accused by checking the background and interrogating the arrested ones,” superintendent of police (detective) Jagjit Singh Saroya said.
Saroya said police checked the call records of the accused and were raiding their houses.
“Now, we have collaborated with the Tarn Taran police for further investigation in this case. We have also formed special teams to arrest the culprits soon,” he further said.
