DEO, 4 others suspended on embezzlement charge

Punjab education minister Sikander Singh Maluka today suspended five officials, including Gurdaspur district education officer, on the charge of embezzling funds to the tune of Rs 2 crore released for school dresses and furniture.

Those suspended are DEO Shindo Sahni, district resource person Ram Lubhaya, APC (general) Pawan Mahajan and clerk Narinder Kumar Sharma, said an official release.

Maluka also suspended director (administration) Manjit Kaur Ghuman who was posted in the office of DPI (Secondary) for alleged negligence in duty.

Maluka said directions have been issued to the SSP of Gurdaspur for registration of an FIR against the DEO and others.
