A local police team had arrested Dilwar on Thursday, on charges of inciting violence in Panchkula following the conviction of sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim on August 25

Dilawar, who is the dera’s spokesperson, had given a statement in the media, a day after the court verdict, saying that “injustice” had been done to the sect chief.

His arrest assumes significance as the police are now slowly tightening grip around all close aides of rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim. Earlier, the police had booked dera’s chief spokesperson Aditya Insaan and Ram Rahim’s adopted daughter Honeypreet, who are still at large.

Panchkula police commissioner AS Chawla told HT that the accused was arrested from Sonepat with the help of the local police team headed by SSP Satender Kumar Gupta.

He said that several accused who are already in police custody have revealed Dilwar’s identity for supplying weapons and planning arson after Baba’s conviction.

Chawla said that Dera’s several other core teams are under suspicion and they will be taken in to custody as and when their role is confirmed.

“Dilawar is booked in the same case as Aditya Insaan and Surender Dhiman. He will be produced in the court on Friday in order to seek his police remand,” said Chawla.
