In yet another embarrassment to the ruling Badal government, the Amritsar chief of the Shiromani Akali Dal and chairman of the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) Upkar Singh Sandhu resigned from his position and the membership of the party.

Upkar Singh Sandhu said, “The recent incidents of Sacrilege of Shri Guru Granth Sahib and pardon to Dera Sacha Sauda Chief are shocking, which is why I have decided to quit.” (HT photo)

Holding the Punjab Government and Akali Dal responsible for the prevailing scenario, Upkar Sandhu said, “The recent incidents of Sacrilege of Shri Guru Granth Sahib and pardon to Dera Sacha Sauda Chief are shocking, which is why I have decided to quit.”

Sandhu also slammed the Punjab government for killing two persons during agitation and also claimed that he was upset with the suspension of Panj Pyaras by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
