The patients, who came from Ludhiana and far-flung areas, even complained at 104 after they failed to find any doctor at the centre.

Dr Renu, officiating medical superintendent, said: "We don't have full time psychiatrist at the centre. After the arrest of Dr Sudha Vasudev, who was the centre incharge, Dr Raina Garg from the de-addiction centre, Jagraon, was brought to Ludhiana on Saturday. But as he has to look after Jagraon too, he will be on duty in Ludhiana on Tuesday and Friday only."

When asked whether the centre will have a permanent psychiatrist at the centre, Dr Renu said: "I had forwarded our demand to the health director and he assured that he will arrange for someone soon."
