Drugs have adverse effect on health, finances of individual, says CJM

The Patiala health department, in collaboration with the District Legal Service Authority, organised a seminar to observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse in order to make prisoners aware about the misuse of drugs and of the illicit drugs’ business, at central jail on Monday.

Chief judicial magistrate-cum-secretary District Legal Service Authority Ashish Bansal, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that no religion permits its followers to use drugs. “The young generation gets attracted towards drugs as they feel it would free them from stress, tiredness and tension, which consequently make them addicted to it. Drugs are not only dangerous for one’s health but for individual’s financial conditions and society as well, as these further lead to criminal activities,” he said.

Civil surgeon Rajiv Bhalla stated that drugs were sweet poison and slowly ate up the human organs. “The use of these can lead us to lethal diseases such as cancer, heart attack, AIDS, liver damage, etc,” he said.

He said, “The government has established three de-addiction centers in the Patiala district, including one at Rajindra Hospital, and the other two at Saket Hospital, Patiala and civil hospital, Rajpura.”

Dr Gurmeet Singh, district epidemiologist and Dr Prabhdeep, associate professor, psychology department, Rajindra Hospital, educated the prisoners about the laws and harmful results of drugs.
