The inordinate delay in taking decision on the president of district unit of Bhartiya Janta Party has provided an opportunity for party workers to raise eyebrows over the functioning of party affairs at state level.
According to a senior party leader, who did not wish to be name, factionalism in the unit could be the reason of delay. But for coordinating between different sections, party high command should play its role and decide on the issue.
BJP has three MLAs in Jalandhar city and reportedly each one has their reservations for the post of district president.
Jalandhar (Central) MLA Manoranjan Kalia had been lobbying for BJP Councillor Ravi Mahindru while liking for former district president Shiv Dyal Chugh by Jalandhar (North) MLA and chief parliamentary Secretary KD Bhandari is well known.
Jalandhar west MLA and Minister of Local Bodies Bhagat Chunni Lal had been acting as the silent player so far. In the elections held on 22 November 2012, Ravi Mahindru was declared as elected president but three days after his election was challenged by former President Shiv Dyal Chugh blaming that former has forged the proposer's signatures.
The appeal was made to state observer Vinod Sharma who on December 5, withdrew the election of Mahindru as district president.
Mahindru, thereafter appealed to central observer Thawar Chand Gehlot seeking reversal of his quashing. Senior party leader Subhash Sood was asked to work as the acting president of the Bhartiya Janta Party, who is taking care of the party since then.
