For opposing the Febr uary 21 police baton charge on farmers, the Kissan Sangharsh Committee will hold a three-day demonstration outside the office of the deputy commissioner here from Monday (March 24).
On February 21, farmers had held some Powercom officials hostage inside the chief engineer’s office here to protest against electricity bills. The police baton charge to control the situation claimed the life of farmer Bahadur Singh (75), even as farmers were charged with starting the violence and holding the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) officials captive.
Kissan Sangharsh Committee general secretary Sawinder Singh said here on Wednesday that the farmers wanted rollback of the increase in power tariff, besides an investigation into the baton charge and famer’s death. They want a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court to lead the inquiry.
