Inspector general (GRP) Rohit Choudhary on Thursday told mediapersons that a drive was underway to put a criminal surveillance system in place. Under this drive, records of offenders were analysed and it was found that during the last five years 838 offenders were released from jail after completion of their sentence, he said.

The IG said that special cells had been formed to keep a track on the activities of released offenders. GRP officials will provide information regarding inter-state anti-social elements to the train escort parties so that they could keep an eye on them.

He said that squads had been formed to arrest proclaimed offenders.
