With a population of 6.8 million, the electorate in the hill state was 4.6 million during the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.

As many as 67,513 first time voters have been added to the voters' list in the past five years.

Chief electoral officer Narender Chauhan said Himachal Pradesh was one of the few states to have issued photo identity cards to all voters.

The state has four Lok Sabha seats: Shimla (reserved), Kangra, Mandi and Hamirpur.

Mandi is the biggest constituency in the state and covers almost two-thirds of the hill state.
