An HIV-positive woman committed suicide after killing her 10-year-old daughter here on Tuesday.

The woman, identified as Kuldeep Kaur (34), was a resident of Kahalwan village under Qadian police station. She was working as a domestic help. It is learnt that Kuldeep’s husband Tek Singh, who worked as a truck driver in Mumbai, had died of AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) three years ago.

On Tuesday, a fellow villager arrived at Kuldeep’s house, but when her repeated calls remained unanswered, she raised the alarm. People entered the house by breaking the window panes and found the bodies of Kuldeep and her daughter Simranjeet Kaur on the floor. They also spotted some tablets near the bodies.

A police team led by the station house officer (SHO), Qadian, Kulwant Singh, reached the spot and sent the bodies to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem.

Sarpanch Pritpal Singh said Kuldeep was undergoing treatment for Aids. He added that she was under stress and felt stigmatised due to her illness.
