A man in Bujana Khurd village of Sonepat’s Ganaur tehsil got his wife booked for secretly aborting their girl child without his permission.

The complainant, Pawan Kumar, said he married Rekha Devi in 2007 and already had a daughter with her.

He said in 2016, Rekha got pregnant again and he started taking care of her health. However, she conducted gender test with help of her parents and aborted the foetus after knowing that it was a girl. She told her husband and in-laws that she had a miscarriage. But Kumar came to know about the abortion after he heard the recording of a telephonic conversation between his wife and her parents.

After hearing the phone recording, Kumar said, he came to know that his wife underwent abortion thrice earlier too, and on all occasions, it was a girl child.

Kumar said he confronted his wife and her parents, but instead of realising their mistake, they threatened to file a dowry harassment case against him.

He then approached the police with the CD of the phone recording between his wife and in-laws. Based on the evidence, the police have registered a case against Rekha, her parents and other members of family under Section 23 of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (Prevention of Misuse) Act, and Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 312 (causing miscarriage) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
