IHRO chief appeals for early release of Capt Sunil James

Jaspreet Singh Sidhu, president of the International Human Rights Organisation (IHRO), has asked Syed Akbaruddin, official spokesperson and joint secretary of the union ministry of external affairs, to make all possible efforts to secure early release of Capt Sunil James, who was arrested in July on charges of aiding pirates after they attacked his ship MT Ocean Centurion off the coast of Togo, a country bordering Ghana.

He said earlier some officials of the ministry had also met Captain James in the prison and assured his family of making arrangements
to get his release to perform the last rites of his 11-month-old son, who died in a hospital on December 2 in Mumbai.

The body of the baby Vivaan has been kept at Holy Spirit Hospital, with the family awaiting his father's return to perform the last rites.
