Unauthorised parking of vehicles in front of Mini Secretariat is causing inconvenience to visitors. Traffic snarls in front of the Mini Secretariat is a common sight.

Thousands of visitors come to Mini-Secretariat, but park their vehicles on the road, citing high parking charges at the multi-level parking. Advocates have also raised voice against mismanagement at the parking area allotted to them. "Many cops and influential people park their vehicles in their parking space and advocates are forced to park their vehicles on the road," said advocates.

Advocates said many accidents take place due to mismanagement of the parking area. Authorities should take required steps to manage the parking problem at the Mini-Secretariat.

According to sources, some of the parking staff members at the multi-level parking are acting as touts and charge money from visitors by offering to do their work in short time.

A visitor at the multi-level parking said, "Parking staff told him that they will take `500 extra as compulsory fine and complete their work within a few minutes."

Earlier, the deputy commissioner had blacklisted Bhola and Company, who is contractor for the multilevel parking, as it was found habitual of overcharging during an inquiry conducted by a tehsildar, but his contract was not cancelled. The case of Bhola and Company is subjudice in a court.

Earlier, HT had highlighted several times that how the Bhola and Company was charging Rs 20 from two-wheelers against the prescribed rate of Rs 12 and Rs 40 against the actual fee of `23 for parking of four-wheelers. Residents had also given written complaints to the district administration, following which an inquiry was marked into the overcharging, but to no avail.

There are several problems which the advocates and visitors are suffering in Mini Secretariat. The major problem is of mismanagement of parking of vehicles which leads to traffic jam in the secretariat. One year earlier advocates have protested in front of Deputy Commissioner Office to allot parking space for advocates. The space is provided but the parking area is not constructed till now. Authorities should take steps to correct the problems of the people.

Vinod Kumar, an advocate

I have parked my vehicle in multi level parking and they have charged Rs 20 instead of Rs 12 for my vehicle. Moreover there are several problems in Mini Secretariat which are pertinent to mention that there are many agents in every side as there is no check of officials to stop them as they are duping the people. Authorities should strictly correct the problems as all the violations are done under the nose of deputy commissioner.

Navjot Singh a visitor in Mini Secretariat

Authorities should take step to manage the parking problems of vehicles as thousands of the visitors visit in Mini Secretariat regularly. Another problem is that officials have turned blind eye towards over charging of fees in multi level parking. Though many of the times cops use to tow away the vehicles which are not parked properly but police is not stopping high charging parking fees.
