Income tax dept searches Gopal Sweets outlets in Chandigarh, Patiala

Income tax sleuths checked account files, jewellery of the business house and owners.

The income tax department raided various outlets of Gopal Sweets in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and Patiala on Wednesday.

The outlets in Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula were reportedly raided at the same time.

The I-T officials checked the sales registers, cash and jewellery of the business house and the owners. The raid began from Patiala. Shutters of the outlets remained closed during the checking.As many as 19 locations were searched in different cities of Punjab. The outlets in Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula were reportedly raided at the same time.

As per sources, the search operations were only a survey. The principal commissioner of the income tax department, Jagtar Singh, said the raiding team came from Chandigarh and all information will be shared after the checking is complete.

Gopal Sweets started its chain from Patiala and subsequently opened three outlets in Chandigarh, six in Panchkula, two in Mohali, two in Ludhiana and one in Jalandhar. An outlet was recently opened in Canada as well.The chain’s production is handled from Patiala and the sales department operates from Chandigarh.
