His wife Sangeeta Jaitley and daughter Sonali Jaitley reached Amritsar to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple and the Durgiana Mandir on the occasion of Sonali's birthday. The family also served lunch at an orphanage and a school for the visually-impaired in the city.

Talking to mediapersons, Sangeeta Jaitley said, "I am here with my daughter on a private visit and there is no political motive (behind it). We have a house in the city and we will be coming here in routine."

Jaitley had purchased a house in Amritsar in the Green Avenue locality during the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.

Asked as to when would Jaitley visit the city, she said, "He is busy as he is holding two key portfolios but will definitely visit the holy city after the budget".

As soon as Jaitley's family members reached Amritsar, several local BJP leaders also drove to the minister's residence to welcome them.
