Showing deep concern over rampant drug abuse, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday directed the state police authorities to make an effective strategy to counter the nuisance.
At a meeting with the officials from civil and police administration of the district here on Wednesday, Khattar said maximum complaints in this case were reported mainly from the areas near the Haryana-Punjab border.
"The inclination of youth towards drugs is a matter of grave concern and the officers should take steps to encourage the youth to stay away from drugs," he said.
The CM also asked the officials to lay special emphasis on maintaining proper law and order situation in the state and adopting zero-tolerance towards crime.
Khattar also directed the officers to keep a check on smuggling of cows to the adjoining Uttar Pradesh, saying "the state government was committed to ensure 'Gau Raksha' (protection of cow)".
The chief minister said the state BJP government had launched a cleanliness drive in the state and directed the officers that besides maintaining cleanliness, adequate arrangements should be made for dumping of garbage to keep environment pollution free.
He asked the officers to erect permanent dustbins having separate provision for solid, paper and oily waste at selected places.
Khattar also gave directions to immediately redress the problem regarding the supply of urea and fertiliser and for this, he asked the officers to keep a check on hoarding of these items.
