After the incident of a drunk cop allegedly entering gurdwara Jandalisar in Kot Shamir town near here, a delegation of town residents met deputy commissioner Basant Garg on Friday demanding handing over the gurdwara to Sikh preacher Baljit Singh Daduwal.

The delegation alleged that SGPC member Amrik Singh Kotshamir had occupied the gurdwara that is being desecrated as drunk cops entered the sacred place and many of them smoked inside the premises. The villagers had also sent a copy of the memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah to look into the matter.

Constable Kuldip Singh of commando battalion of Punjab police had allegedly entered the gurdwara on Thursday and was caught by another cop. The gurdwara was managed by Daduwal but Amrik Singh, along with his supporters, had taken over the reins after Daduwal's arrest in August and claimed to have formed a five-member committee to manage the sacred place.
