The district legal services authority (DLSA) organised a lok adalat at the district court and sub divisional courts in Nakodar and Phillaur on Saturday.
District and sessions judge cum chairman Raj Shekhar Attri said that during the lok adalat, 15 benches comprising judicial officers, advocates and social workers, were constituted to settle civil, criminal, matrimonial, rent-related and other cases.
In this monthly adalat, 421 cases were taken up for amicable settlement out of which 302 cases were finally disposed of through compromise and a sum of Rs 2.38 crore was awarded as compensation.
Attri said the decision given by the lok adalat was final and no appeal could be filed against its order. He also appealed to people to visit mediation centers, running in the judicial complex, to decide their cases.
Civil judge cum secretary of district legal service authority Rana Kanwar Deep Kaur said DLSA provides free legal aid to women, children, the mentally and physically handicapped, factory workers, members of scheduled castes and tribes and victims of disasters.
