Liquor shop at Raike Kalan to be shifted, residents end stir

The excise and taxation department has ordered the shifting of the liquor shop at Raike Kalan village to a place outside the village. Residents of the village had been protesting for the shifting of the vend for the last four days. Even on Friday, the residents blocked the Gidderbaha-Badal highway on Friday.

The villagers had been protesting as the shop and the tavern attached to it were situated near a temple and a government school. More than 100 residents, including women, had been taking in the protest.

Member of the sangharsh committee Kulwant Sharma said that when they were blocking the Gidderbaha-Badal highway, excise and taxation inspector Jiwan Singla came to the spot and assured the protesters to shift the liquor shop from the place. He also assured to close the tavern running with it.
