Ludhiana: Forced into begging, 5 children rescued

Punjab police on Tuesday claimed to have rescued five children following the arrest of a man who allegedly abducted them and forced them into begging. The accused, identified as Raju was nabbed near Dholewal Chowk. He allegedly used to push the children to beg after kidnapping them from various places, police said .

Punjab police on Tuesday claimed to have rescued five children following the arrest of a man who allegedly abducted them and forced them into begging. The accused, identified as Raju was nabbed near Dholewal Chowk. He allegedly used to push the children to beg after kidnapping them from various places, police said .

"Five children of age group 10-15 have been rescued following the arrest after police got secret information from its sources that they were living in shanties near the local railway station", they said.



According to the Deputy Commissioner, Naveen Singla, "all the five children who had over a period of time escaped from the custody of the gang have been sent to the children's home in Mohali".



Further investigations are underway,they added.
