Man held for attempting rape to his 11-year- old step-daughter

The police arrested a labourer for trying to rape his 11-year-old step daughter in Chet Singh nagar on Monday.The victim raised alarm following which the accused fled the spot. The incident took place on Sunday and the accused was arrested on Monday.

He has been identified as Pawan Kumar, 35. A case under Sections 376 (rape) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences) of the IPC, and Sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered against him.

The victim, a student of Class 7, said she was alone at home when the accused tried to rape her. She resisted and raised an alarm following that the accused fled. She narrated the whole story to her mother, after that she lodged her complaint with Shimlapuri police station.

Inspector Jagjit Singh, Shimlapuri SHO, said after death of her husband, mother of the victim had solemnised marriage with Pawan Kumar around two and a half year ago. It was the first marriage of Pawan Kumar.

Pawan was arrested from Gill road when he was trying to flee to evade arrest. The police will produce him before the court on Tuesday.
