Mandi Gobindgarh: Five held for drug smuggling

The district sessions court has imprisoned five people under four different cases of drug trafficking in the district.

The district sessions court has imprisoned five people under four different cases of drug trafficking in the district.

Police arrested two brothers Sunil Kumar and Chander Pal, natives of Mandi Gobindgarh, with drug tablets in large quantity and on Wednesday additional judge Ajaib Singh of district and sessions court sentenced Sunil to 10-year imprisonment and fined him Rs 1 lakh.

Chanderpal has also been given four-year imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000. Similarly, Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Patiala, has been fined Rs 20,000 after 2 kg opium was recovered from him.

In spite of this, Gurpreet Singh and Vinod Kumar, residents of Mandi Gobindgarh, were sentenced to imprisonment and underwent three years of imprisonment, respectively against the charges of recovery of 25-gm smack and 275-gm drug powder.
