The party also accused Manpreet of betraying PPP workers and people of Punjab.

In a statement here, senior SAD leaders Prem Singh Chandumajra and Balwinder Singh Bhunder said: “Manpreet even formed the PPP on the directions of the Congress to cause a split in the Badal family and lure SAD legislators and partymen to the new outfit.”

The close coordination between Manpreet and the Congress is also evident from the fact that he fought the last Lok Sabha elections on the Congress symbol, they added. “His latest move (to merge PPP with the Congress) is only a formal articulation of his long-time arrangement with the Congress,” said SAD leaders.

They said Manpreet had destroyed his political career by deceiving people time and again and he would not achieve anything in the Congress as the SAD- BJP would form the government in the state for the third time in a row. “Overambitious people often meet such a fate and none can believe a liar who betrays people in the name of martyrs,” added Chandumajra.
