Massive rescue operation by local firemen

In a massive rescue operation launched by local firemen, 400 sheep and goats and four shepherds stuck in the Beas were rescued on Saturday. According to the local fire officer BR Thakur, after a sudden rise in the level of the Beas waters, 400 livestock and four shepherds got stranded on the left bank of the Beas near Kalath village 6 kms from here on Friday.

The sheep and goats could not be rescued on Friday despite all efforts by the rescue team. In the wee hours on Friday, the rescue operation was resumed and the four shepherds and livestock were safely rescued. Local SDM Viney Dhiman said the shepherds belonged high altitude Peej village in Kullu tehsil. The rescue operation was launched by a team headed by the local SHO Firoz Khan.
