The decision will bring new opportunities to girls in the rural area of Maur in Bathinda district. Dr Jaspal Singh, vice-chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala, has approved the course to be on from this year.

On the Maur campus, the university runs seven courses (MBA (integrated), B.Com (professional), BCA, PGDCA, M Sc-IT, MCA, and MBA) already. The new programme is only for girls.

"The BA course was much in demand among girls at Maur," said DK Madaan, principal on the Maur campus. "It was very difficult for them to pursue this course at faraway places. The campus would like to thank the V-C for his permission."

The admission forms will be available on the campus on cash payment of Rs 50. The deadline for applying is November 12 and the admission interview will be on November 12. The rest of the details are on the campus website.
