A minor rape victim committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan at her residence at Bibilan village in Sonepat district on Wednesday evening.

The 16-year-old girl from Dalit community was raped on February 6 at her village near Gohana by four youths when she had gone to collect woods.

One of the accused, Sukhwant Kumar of the same village, was arrested by police in this connection. He was remanded into judicial custody.

A family member of the victim on Thursday told media persons in Gohana that the girl was raped by four persons, two of whom were residents of a neighbouring village. He further alleged that police
registered a case of rape and not gangrape.

However, police sub-inspector Yogender Singh, who is the investigation officer in the case, refuted all allegations, saying the statement of the victim was recorded before the competent authority (magistrate).
