Moga businessman murdered in The Philippines

A 42-year-old businessman from Moga was shot dead in Manila in The Philippines on Thursday morning. Kulwant Singh, a native of Maheshri Sandhuan village, 19 km from the district headquarter, had been running a business in Manila since 1995.

A 42-year-old businessman from Moga was shot dead in Manila in The Philippines on Thursday morning.

Kulwant Singh, a native of Maheshri Sandhuan village, 19 km from the district headquarter, had been running a business in Manila since 1995.

The family said that Kulwant was attacked outside Manila city by unidentified masked assailants. No motive has been established yet.

Bhupinder Singh Maheshri, state general secretary of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal), a close relative of the deceased, said, "Kulwant was returning home after morning walk when some miscreants attacked him."

Harnek Singh, the victim's father, said, "When my younger son went to Manila on a work-permit visa, I thought all our all problems will end. However, fate had something else in store for us."

Gurmail Kaur, the mother, said: "We were not with him during his last days and could not see the body. He has been cremated in Manila by our close relatives and friends."

There has been a spate of murders of youths from Moga in The Philippines over the last year. Some of the victims have been Harveer Singh (29) of Raunta village, Baljeet Singh (32) of Kokri Kalan village, Gurdial Singh (46) of Dosanjh village, and brothers Gurmeet Singh (28) and Veer Singh (24) of Bhinder Kalan village and Balwinder Singh (23) of Manuke Gill and Jugraj Singh (52) of Gajian village in this district.
