Ludhiana District Congress Committee (Urban) president Pawan Dewan on Wednesday said, "Children are future of a nation and the target of development can only be accomplished after providing them better education."
Addressing a gathering at Government High School in Jawaddi village, he said pace of development could further be increased following the improvement in the educational structure of the country.
On the occasion, he handed over a cheque of Rs 4 lakh to the school for the promotion of education. The grant was made out of Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund of Ludhiana MP and minister for information and broadcasting Manish Tewari.
Dewan said there would not be any shortage of funds for schools to ensure quality education to the students. He said that Tewari always tried to uplift the standard of education, as he believed that the nation would progress only when children would be imparted quality education.
He said crores of rupees were allocated to Ludhiana and all other districts of Punjab under the UPA-led government sponsored programme Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).
Besides RMSA, free education and food were also being provided to children under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SAS) programme and the mid-day meal scheme.
Meanwhile, leader of Opposition at the Ludhiana municipal corporation (LMC) Hemraj Aggarwal said children of mediocre families study in government schools because education had become very costly.
He asserted that there was a need to replace obsolete infrastructure with new one in government schools. He said the Congress had always been a pro - development, and would continue its policies in the future too. He said everybody would be given equal participation in the development.
Both Dewan and Aggarwal handed over the cheque of Rs4 lakh to school principal Pardeep Sharma.
On the occasion, they honoured outstanding students of the schools.
