Passersby heard the cries of the child and on investigation found a newborn girl wrapped in a cloth. They did nothing instead of staring at the newborn and gossiping.
But, after around two hours two students - Vineet Bhagat and Puneet Dhawan - showed some courage and rushed the baby to civil hospital.
The girl is normal, but doctors have kept her under observation for 24 hours and will be handed over to Swami Ganga Nand Bhuri Wale International Foundation, Talwandi Dham, that runs a children home.
Dr Harpreet Singh, a paediatrician at the civil hospital, said, “The girl is merely 2 to 3 days old, but is healthy and normal. We will keep her under observation for 24 hours and will hand her over to children home.”
The Division Number 2 police have registered a case against unidentified woman for abandoning a newborn.
