Of the 527 people examined during the two-day cancer detection camp organised at the Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital recently, six cancer cases have been confirmed.

Health officials said that four women were found positive for breast cancer, while two men have neck cancer.

In December 2012, a cancer survey was conducted by the health department in the district and 5,811 suspected cancer cases were reported.

During the second round of the survey in February 2013, of the 5,811 suspected cancer cases, 47 were confirmed. Around 550 suspected cancer patients could not be examined that time and they were covered during the recent camp.

Now, out of 5,811 suspected cancer cases, a total of 53 are confirmed cases.

Dr Manjit Singh, nodal officer for cancer, said that there was no reason to panic.
