Even as tension prevailed in Patti town on Thursday in the wake of murder of Punjab Youth Congress leader Sukhraj Singh, police claimed they had arrested one of the five accused.
After investigating the murder that was committed in Bhagupur village on Wednesday and recording the statements of witnesses, police had registered an FIR against three brothers Sarwan Singh, Harcharan Singh and Sukhwinder Singh apart from Randeep Singh and Hardeep Singh. All are residents of Bhagupur.
The case was registered at Patti police station under Sections 302, 307, 148 and 149 of the IPC and the Arms Act.
Patti DSP Jagdeep Singh claimed that Harcharan Singh had been arrested, who was later send by sub-divisional judicial magistrate Pritpal Singh to four-day police custody. "We are questioning him and will arrest the others soon. We will also recover the firearm used in the murder," the DSP added.
