Passenger carrying gold biscuits held at airport

The customs authorities, along with the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), on Thursday night seized 41 gold biscuits worth Rs 1.38 crore from a passenger who landed at the Sree Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport here from Dubai.

The customs authorities, along with the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), on Thursday night seized 41 gold biscuits worth Rs 1.38 crore from a passenger who landed at the Sree Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport here from Dubai.

The biscuits weighed 4.7 kg and were hidden underneath a belt on the waist and under the feet using an adhesive tape.

The person carrying the gold has been identified as Raja Kumar of Amritsar.

DIG, counter intelligence, Mohnish Chawla, said, "The seizure was made on the basis of a specific input. The passenger has been handed over to Customs department."

Kumar had arrived in an Air India flight and is learnt to be a frequent traveller.
