PPP activists demand completion of Kotkapura-Muktsar road

To highlight the issue ahead of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal's visit to the region to lay the foundation stone of railway overbridge on Friday, People's Party of Punjab district president Jagjeet Singh alias Honey Fattanwala, with his supports, protested at the site where the foundation stone was laid around 20 months ago.

"As the earth from sides of the road has been dug up 2-3 feet deep, more than 12 people have lost their lives on the stretch on the stretch due to accidents caused by the digging. Many accidents have taken place," alleged Jagjeet.

"We want to remind the government that it should complete pending works before laying new foundation stones. The government is only going on an foundation stone laying spree just before the elections," said Jimmy Brar, another PPP activist.

The Muktsar-Kotkapura Road, which is the main connecting road of the town to many other districts via Kotkapura, was to be upgraded and widened under the build-operate-and-transfer project by a private construction company.

However, the project was reportedly abandoned and the residents have been left to fend for themselves.
