Manpreet's relatives blamed the negligence on part of the hospital staff for the death and staged a dharna outside the gynaecology ward of the hospital. They alleged that no one attended to her for hours.

"We had been here since morning. But the hospital staff attended to her at 3.30 pm after much persuasion.

However, an hour later, the hospital staff told us that the condition of the patient was serious and she needed to be shifted to the PGI at Chandigarh. But she died before we could take her there," they said.

The patient's relatives continued with the dharna till late in the evening, seeking action against the staff allegedly responsible for her death.

However, medical superintendent Dr VK Sharda said there was no negligence on part of the hospital staff.

"Besides labour pains, Manpreet had certain other complications for which she was referred to the PGI," said Sharda.
