The accused, Laddi of Chava Nedi Tibri village of Gurdaspur, has been booked under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) following the complaint of the victim's father, Gami.

In his complaint, Gami alleged that Laddi had an eye on his son Saddam Husain alias Sudama's wife and used to harass her. When Sudama came to know about this, he got depressed and committed suicide, his father alleged.

Sudama had allegedly hanged himself from the grills of stairs at the jail on Wednesday. Alleging murder, his kin had blocked traffic at Tajpur Road on Thursday.

Accusing Laddi of getting Sudama killed through his accomplices, the victim's kin had sought an FIR against him. However, the autopsy report revealed that Sudama died due to hanging, following which the victim's kin levelled allegations of Sudama being driven to suicide.

Inspector Paramjit Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Division Number 7 police station, said the police had registered a case following the statement of Gami, and appropriate action would be taken after investigating the matter.
