Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu was scheduled to make an announcement in this regard at a function in Karnal on Thursday, but due to the seven-day mourning announced due to the demise of ex-president APJ Abdul Kalam, the programme has been postponed indefinitely.

Besides announcing the halt of the train at Karnal, the minister was also scheduled to inaugurate a community centre-cum-banquet hall for railway employees. However, HT has learnt that both these programmes have been postponed indefinitely, even as till the filing of this report, there was no official word from the state authorities on the postponement of the train halt.

Karnal railway station supervisor Virender Kumar said only the railway ministry was authorised to announce the date when the train would start halting in the city.
