The police resorted to a lathicharge on protesting workers of the National Rural Health Mission (NHRM) on Friday.
The police had also lathicharged contractual employees of the Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC) on Thursday.NHRM workers from all over the state had gathered in Talwandi Sabo to hold a protest march against the state government. But, the police foiled their plan to hold a march by resorting to a lathicharge.
The workers are demanding regularisation of their jobs and higher pay scales. The police also tried to snatch cameras from photo journalists so that they could not cover the action of the police.Women protesters, who were in majority, were dragged and made to run by the police. Many of the protestors were detained at the Kotfatta police station.
Talwandi sabo has become a hotspot for protesters and the police are in no mood to give them any chance to protest.Meanwhile, Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa has called upon the policemen in the state to listen to the voice of their conscience rather than following the illegal and flawed orders of the Akali rulers.
He said the Akali rulers had unleashed a reign of terror and the Akali goons considered themselves to be above law.
