This was revealed in the reply to a Right to Information (RTI) query by the family of Ludhiana resident Avtar Singh alias Gola, who was murdered by Pinky on January 7, 2001.

Showing the documents obtained from the prison department, Avtar's father Amrik Singh said Pinky got his first parole on April 4, 2008 for two weeks. The parole was extended to 56 days.

"Pinky got parole frequently. In May 2009, he was out for four weeks on parole that was extended twice. He returned to jail on October 18, 2009 - 143 days later," said Amrik Singh.

"Similarly, he got parole thrice in 2011 and 2012 and spent almost 28 weeks out of jail in these two years," he added.
Amrik wondered why the prison department was so generous to grant parole to Pinky. He alleged many top officers in the police department were backing Pinky.

Amrik's family has filed a writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana high court against premature release of Pinky.
