Punjab power regulator clears 9.33% hike in tariffs for FY18

Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission announced an increase in power tariff across sections in a press conference in Chandigarh on Monday.
Here are the major announcements from the press conference:
1) A 7-12% hike has been announced for domestic consumers. The hike shall vary depending upon the consumption — in other words, more increase for more power consumed.
2) For the commercial section, including shops and other commercial establishments, an 8-10% increase has been announced.
3) For the Punjab industry, the power tariff hike will be 8.5-10%. The regulatory body clarified that the Punjab govt announcement of giving industry power at Rs 5 a unit will be applicable from Nov 1. The government has given consent to subside the power and the regulator is finalising the amount to be subsidised.
The increase in tariffs is applicable from April 1. The press conference was chaired by Kusumjit Kaur Sidhu, PSERC chairwoman.
