Rajasthan ex-CJ Satish Kumar Mittal is new lokpal of Punjab

The new lokpal, Mittal, 62, hails from Narnaul in Haryana. He was elevated to the Punjab and Haryana high court as a judge in 2001. In March this year he took over as CJ of Rajasthan HC and retired a month later.

Justice Satish Kumar Mittal (retd) has been appointed the new Punjab lokpal. Punjab governor VP Singh Badnore issued the appointment order for Mittal, who retired as chief justice of Rajasthan high court earlier this year.

The lokpal’s post was lying vacant since April 14 after the death of justice Jai Singh Sekhon (retd). Sekhon, 84, was the elder brother of Punjab cabinet minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon.

The new lokpal, Mittal, 62, hails from Narnaul in Haryana. He was elevated to the Punjab and Haryana high court as a judge in 2001. In March this year he took over as CJ of Rajasthan HC and retired a month later.

Lokpal holds office for six years and is mandated to hold inquiry into allegations of corruption and misconduct against public officials.
