The suspended headmistress is Joginder Kaur, while the two teachers are Tarvinder Kaur and Yojana Sharma.

The action came from education secretary Anjali Bhawra as the protesting parents and other villagers alleged that the three be held responsible for the incident, wherein the girl informed her class teacher that her classmate had gagged her with a handkerchief and taken her to the boys’ toilet where he raped her.

Due to the protest, classes were suspended for the day as villagers locked the main gate of the premises that also house a primary school. The schools have a combined strength of 600 students.

An uncle of the girl said, “When we send our children to school, it is the responsibility of the school authorities if anything happens to the child. These kinds of incidents had happened in the school and they always hid them.”

He said, “There is a need to change the teachers and an FIR should be registered against the principal (headmistress).”
