The Jalandhar municipal corporation has included the annual maintenance and road repair work in 54 wards of the city on its priority list, which will be presented in the finance and contract committee (F&CC) meeting on March 24.
Out of a total of 60 wards, the civic body has covered 54 wards for repair and maintenance work of roads.
The MC is all set to start road repair work on major stretches from Sunday and it will start working on roads located in various wards. Most of wards have been allocated Rs 6-8 lakh.
In the current agenda which is to be presented during the upcoming F&CC meeting, the MC has also decided to revive the fire substation near Domoria Bridge area. MC officials said with the rapid expansion of the city it is imperative to strengthen the fire security system.
In addition to this, the fire station located on Jail Road will get a facelift and repair work will be carried out. Taking into consideration the approaching summers, the agenda branch has included construction work on new tubewells and maintenance work required for the waterworks department.
An estimate of rs 46 lakh has been prepared to provide water to Basti Danish Manda residents who have been complaining about lack of proper water supply in their locality for a long time. The agenda has also focused on the proper functioning of sewerage in the city and a substantial amount has been allotted for this.
The MC building and the mayor’s official residence will get a facelift.
However, it is only after the F&CC meeting that things will become clearer as which works get cleared and which ones are not. The agenda branch has kept streets and waterworks within the city on a priority basis for which the civic body has been drawing the ire of the residents.
