Under the scheme, every year the students are given a set of books as per the syllabus set up by the PSEB. A government school teacher said it is good that at least the distribution of the books takes place every year.

“Since it is a central scheme, it occurs every year, unlike the Punjab government’s schemes that usually occur after a gap of two to three years,” said another government school teacher in Adampur, where 795 Class 1 students; 783 of Class 2; 781 Class 3 and 4; 796 Class 5; 908 students each of Class 6, 7 and 8 would be provided with the books.

Whereas in east-3 block, as many as 1,135 students of Class 1; 1,172 of Class 2; 1,200 of Classes 3, 4 and 5; 1,179 of Class 6, 1,246 of Class 7 and 1,207 of Class 8 would be given the books.

“The rest of the blocks in the district will be covered till March last week,” said Purushottam Lal, district regional manager of PSEB.

Lal said the work was going smoothly since last many years and this year also they would make sure that no one got deprived of the books as it was a very good initiative of the government.
