A 30-year-old woman was found murdered under mysterious circumstances in Burj Tehal village near Rahon town of the district on Sunday at 11pm. The victim has been identified as Jasvir Kaur.

Kaur was married to Nayak Gulzar Singh who is posted at 20 Sikh regiment in Yol Cantonment at Himachal Pradesh (HP). Based on the allegations of the victim’s brother, Mandeep Singh,24, of Jandoli in Patiala, the police have booked four persons including Kaur’s husband Gulzar Singh, his brother Didar Singh and two others under Sections 302 (murder), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25 of Arms Act.

“My sister was shot from a .12 bore licensed weapon. She was being harassed by her in-laws, when her husband used to be out on duty.”

Mandeep has stated in the first information report (FIR) that his sister got married on January 19, 2012, and had two sons. On Sunday at around 5.27am, Gulzar called and asked him to take his sister back, demanding a divorce or he will kill her. Victim’s brother alleged that at 11pm, Gulzar called and said that Jasvir had shot herself. Following which, Mandeep and his mother along with police reached there.

Mandeep said, “My sister was shot from a .12 bore licensed weapon. She was being harassed by her in-laws, when her husband used to be out on duty.”

Station house officer (SHO) Rahon police station Subash Bath said, “The victim’s husband has been taken into custody. Her body has been handed over to her family after conducting post-mortem at Nawanshahr civil hospital.”

The SHO also said that victim’s husband was on leave for his sister’s wedding. He will be produced before court on October 24. SHO said that the investigation is on and the role of others will also be probed.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Nawanshahr Mukhtiar Rai said, we have seized the weapon used in crime. “The post-mortem report will clear whether it is a suicide or murder,” he said.
