Senior SAD leader and former transport minister Ajit Singh Kohar passes away

Kohar, who was first elected as MLA from the Lohian constituency in 1997 on a SAD ticket, retained the seat five consecutive times. Presently, he was the MLA from Shahkot.

Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and formers transport minister Ajit Singh Kohar (78) died of a cardiac arrest in Jalandhar late Sunday night.

Kohar died at 11.30pm on Sunday.

Kohar, who was first elected as MLA from the Lohian constituency in 1997 on a SAD ticket, retained the seat five consecutive times. Presently, he was the MLA from Shahkot.

On Sunday, Kohar’s health started deteriorating following which his family took him to a local hospital from where he was referred to a private hospital in Jalandhar.

He was the revenue minister in 2007 and also held the portfolio of transport during the previous SAD government’s regime.
